What is Brake Fluid?

Brake fluid is a type of hydraulic fluid that serves multiple purposes.

Its main task is to transfer force – when the brake pedal is pressed, the brake fluid is pushed to your calipers, which then apply pad pressure to the rotors, resulting in your vehicle slowing to a halt.

Its secondary purpose is to lubricate all the moving parts within the braking system, helping to protect it against rust and other corrosion, and to dissipate heat.

Like most vehicle fluids, brake fluid should be periodically changed to ensure it remains fresh and uncontaminated, resulting in optimal braking performance.
